Both examples unscrew and assemble to form a functional smoking pipe, with wooden bodies and metal fittings. One is finished in a light figured wood, possibly sycamore or similar hardwood, while the second has a dark stained finish. The darker example appears to be the earlier of the two and is hand inscribed to the cap with the date 1907
